WE LOVE WHAT WE DO

We provide architectural, construction project management and consulting services in and around Ballito, Salt Rock, Sheffield and surrounding residential estates

Bridgewater Spencer Architecture was founded in 2004 and is based on the KwaZulu Natal North Coast, South Africa.

We are a small team of professionals and that specialize in creating residential homes that balance both our client’s needs and that of the environment in a sustainable way.

Our studio mantra is “Function over Form” to ensure we create liveable, practical and environmentally conscious homes that acknowledge context.

We also appreciate that homes are often the single largest individual asset for many families and are especially mindful to craft homes that not only meet the current needs of our clients but that would also appeal to future homeowners, where return of investment is factor.

As a locally based Architect firm on the KZN North Coast, Bridgewater Spencer are valued members on the Architecture Review Committee that oversee and approve plans for the following estates:

  • Simbithi Eco Estate;

  • Brettenwood Coastal Estate;

  • Dunkirk Estate;

  • Hilltop Estate; and

  • Prince's Grant Golf Estate.

In addition, we are also accredited Architects for Seaton, Zululami, Zimbali Coastal Resort, Gowrie Farm as well as Palm Lakes Estates.

Our proximity and thorough appreciation of the building codes for each of these estates and the requirements of the municipality, allow us to consider and work to conforming designs from the outset. This not only allows for shorter than average submission to approval turnaround times but avoids many of associated frustrations of having to resize and remove features from your home.

Having completed my BArch at the University of Pretoria in 2001, I later obtained a Masters’ degree in Construction Project Management (2007 - UP) and was awarded the Top Student Prize by the Charted Institute of Building.

In 2004, I left Pretoria and was drawn to the climate, people and overall lifestyle of the KZN North Coast. I founded Bridgewater Spencer Architecture as the Principle Architect in that year.

I have been a registered Professional Architect with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession since 2004 (membership number 7002) and am also member of the KwaZulu Natal Institute of Architects.

When I am not at my desk or on site you can find me in the kitchen cooking up a storm, playing passable hockey or walking my Schnauzers.

My core strength is the ability to listen to my clients in order to work out a design solution which is tailor made to their dreams, financial situation and unique site.

WENDY BOUWER

“My first dealings with an architect turned into such a nightmare that I nearly gave up on building our dream home, then a friend told me to go and see Wendy and see if she could help. Not feeling very positive after many meetings and months of frustration with the previous architect I decided to phone her.

Within minutes I knew she was the lady for the job as the weight lifted from my shoulders and my nightmare turned into a dream again. She has a gift to understand the client’s needs and by mixing it with her refreshing ideas she gets the job done. I was so excited to see our ideas put to paper and with her input the design is kept simple and cost effective yet unique, leaving you with a feeling that you are creating a very special home.

People are quick to say that a good build starts with a solid foundation, I say it begins with the architect!

Thank you Wendy for turning our dreams into a 3D plan, we cannot wait to move into our new home.”
